Alexandra Hodkowski & Mösco Alcocer - Founders of Head Hi

Alexandra has worked in the arts for over two decades. Mösco is a self-taught artist. They both love books, traveling, art, gatherings, nature, music, and dreaming.

After organizing two debut art shows located in a garage in the Rockaways, Queens, New York in the Summer of 2018, they were about to go on a trip to Europe when they stumbled upon an empty retail space available in Fort Greene, Brooklyn by the Navy Yard and footsteps from their home. They went away dreaming up the perfect bookshop café, and as soon as they came back, they started the insane process of opening a new small business in New York City. Friends joined to help, and in a matter of a few months they opened their doors at the end of November 2018. Visitors started coming intrigued by the flyers they had plastered around the neighborhood.

Head Hi was designed as a flexible space, able to transform from a bookshop café into salon for various programs. Working with local and international artists, designers, publishers, community members and organizations in various fields, Head Hi periodically hosts different happenings from art shows to readings, poetry, live music, performances, screenings, book releases and more.

For our Mojave Art X Head Hi Collaboration BOOKSHOP, we brought the temporary independent bookstore to you. Renee (owner of Mojave Art) first met Alexandra of Head Hi in 2013, when the two worked together in NYC. The two friends share a love for art and design, and are art-bookworms, if that’s a thing!

We presented a collection of curated books centered around six themes : The Desert , Architecture by Women, Italian Design, Photography, The Makers, and The Collector . Each pack features a trio of rare books by international artists and pioneering creatives, who’ve inspired the founders of Mojave Art and Head Hi.

We are happy to announce BOOKSHOP was featured in GQ Magazines, “Best Stuff of 2020” Holiday Guide!

“Breaking Ground | Architecture by Women” + “Ettore Sottsass | The Glass” were featured in our Bookshop.
